10 digits in between us

unexpected, out of the blue we met by chance this morning.

a couple of years ago, she and i were in same college - shared notes, did lab work together and sometimes left the routine for a cup of tea at canteen. classes would never last forever. they came to end, exams tormented and were over, time took us on different ways. we never met since then. we didn't call each other either.

back now, it was a bit exciting to meet all of sudden on the street. what was it really like? i forgot the first reaction while i write this. we stopped for coffee, had some chat... there were a lot of things to catch up. our careers had changed, she would no longer drink ice-tea (surprise), her favourite dog was lost (i was not interested), and lots of things were different as you would imagine. i ordered another refill on coffee. i had same habit.

after a good morning hour spent together it was time to go. she put down her phone number on napkin paper. i did the same. we then realised we already had the numbers saved from years ago... just didn't call each other. out of the cafe i started my run up. the morning chill was already gone and sun was stronger.

even now, i don't know if one of us will ever ring another's mobile.
amazing but true... there are just 10 digits in between us.
we simply don't touch those 10 digits.
